One of the world's leading telecommunications companies, Deutsche Telekom Group (DT Group), recently launched its new, eco-friendly Deutsche Telekom Centre in the Republic during the inaugural Deutsche Telekom Asia Summit 2008. The Summit brought together senior executives from the Group's key business units who shared their vision and business strategies in Asia-Pacific.
This is the company's third data centre facility in Singapore. To date, DT Group and its business customer unit, T-Systems - one of the top providers of integrated information communication technologies (ICT) solutions - have invested approximately S$50 million (US$35.4 million) in the areas of network expansion with new facilities and data centres, to support and drive customers' growth in Asia-Pacific.
"Our investments in Asia-Pacific are testament to our commitment to the customers and our promise to deliver on T-Systems' three core values of Innovation, Simplicity and Competence," says Joachim Langmack, Board Member, T-Systems.
The establishment of the Centre is a significant milestone for T-Systems and Singapore's telecommunications industry. The facility will further strengthen T-Systems' market position in the growing hosting and managed services business. The investment will also boost Singapore's competitiveness as a hub for such activities in Asia-Pacific.
With increasing demand for online content, the managed services and data hosting market is expected to continue growing in Singapore and the rest of Asia. This will also mean more commercial opportunities for companies like T-Systems from businesses that outsource such services.
Singapore is an excellent base to capitalise on this growth. In "Doing Business 2009" (World Bank), the Republic has again been voted as the world's easiest place to do business. Coupled with outstanding technological infrastructure and extensive international connectivity, the city-state is poised to lead in the telecommunications sector.
