Singapore’s drive to become a digital media capital where top quality content is produced for international markets is gaining momentum with the development of a new media hub.

Starting first quarter this year, the Singapore government is poised to develop Mediapolis @ one-north - an industry demand-driven, self-contained and vibrant digital media cluster.

When completed, Mediapolis @ one-north will house a media ecosystem of soundstages with green screen capabilities, including digital production and broadcast facilities and interactive digital media (IDM) and R&D activities, amongst an extensive range of other facilities and amenities. Local media production company, Infinite Frameworks, will invest and build a soundstage complex.

According to Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, “It [Mediapolis] will have media facilities not found elsewhere in Singapore and become the ideal home for international and local companies, media schools and R&D firms.”

One strong pull factor of Mediapolis @ one-north will be the IT infrastructure and technology platform. This is key as media companies rely on high-speed broadband connectivity to enable the processing, management and distribution of digital media content and services.

Mediapolis @ one-north was conceived in consultation with an International Advisory Committee (IAC). Greg Coote, Chairman of the IAC, and Chairman and CEO of Dune Entertainment LP, says, “Singapore already has a stable of strong and attractive attributes to attract production – an East-West gateway, an English-speaking workforce, direct flights from the United States, a robust Intellectual Property (IP) regime, tough IP piracy stance, great food and strong IP connectivity – all within a very business-friendly environment. These make it a compelling destination for media players looking for an excellent place to do business in.”

Adds Coote, “By deploying digital technology, scaling up its media infrastructure appropriately to attract big budget productions, and attracting IP-related media players to its shores, Singapore will become a choice destination for international studio and media firms.”
