Fusionopolis - Singapore's science, technology and media development cluster.
In October, Phase 1 of Fusionopolis, comprising two towers, was completed and officially opened. Launched in 2003 as part of the one-north initiative by JTC Corporation, Fusionopolis is the first integrated development dedicated specially to research and development in the Infocomms, Media, Science and Engineering industries. It is made up of a cluster of buildings that is being developed in phases.
one-north is pivotal to Singapore's knowledge economy. It serves to provide an intellectually stimulating and creative environment for entrepreneurs, scientists and researchers to congregate, interact and exchange ideas as well as to work, live, play and learn. Focusing on knowledge-intensive activities in the biomedical, infocomms and media industries, it is a hotspot for innovation and test-bedding.
Covering more than 200 hectares, one-north will integrate residential units, commercial hubs, tertiary and research institutes, sports facilities as well as gardens and parks over the next 15 to 20 years. Its strategic location in Buona Vista, near the National University of Singapore and Singapore Science Park, makes it a focal point for research and development and technopreneurial activities.
Recently, a naming competition was jointly organised by JTC and A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) for Fusionopolis' two new towers. This was aimed at giving the public a chance to participate in this milestone development. The winning entries for the first two towers are Connexis and Symbiosis.
