  • The size of Singapore’s media sector stood at over S$18.2 billion in revenue in 2005.

  • Singapore is the Broadcast Hub of Asia. Major international cable and satellite broadcast networks such as ESPN Star Sports, Discovery, HBO, MTV, Sony Pictures Entertainment, NBC Universal and CNBC all have regional headquarters in Singapore. Demand from the international broadcasters based here has also helped to nurture a healthy TV production industry.  Between 2000 and 2005, the broadcast sector doubled its value-added from S$330 million to S$680 million at a compounded annual growth rate of 15.5 per cent.    
         
  • Singapore has established a significant and stable publishing and printing industry. In the publishing industry, top companies like Wiley-Blackwell, Reed Elsevier, Pearson and McGraw Hill leverage on Singapore's experienced talent base and strong connectivity to manage business interests for the region. The printing industry contributed nearly S$1.45 billion in value-added in 2005. The publishing sector accounted for another S$720 million in value-added, growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 12 per cent from 2000 to 2005.  
         
  • A new generation of local filmmakers are casting Singapore’s film industry into the international limelight. For example, the joint Singapore-Australian production “The Home Song Story” won the “Best Actress” and “Best Original Screenplay” awards at the 44th Golden Horse Awards. Films by director Eric Khoo have also participated in the Cannes Film Festival.
