Singapore emerged among the top performers in the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) in 2009. Out of 65 countries, Singapore was ranked 2nd in mathematics, 4th in science, and 5th in reading.
The public tertiary education institutions in Singapore are the four local Autonomous Universities - the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University and the Singapore University of Technology and Design; Singapore Institute of Technology; as well as the five polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education.
There are over 1,200 private education organizations, including 30 pre-tertiary schools, offering international curricula in Singapore.
